Steering Cable

Cut the small end off the 1″ x 3/4″ pvc reducer brushing, pass the 1″ steering rod through the rear support and slide the pvc reducer brushing onto the steering rod with the flange toward the support. Continue passing the steering rod until it enters the hole in the forward support. With the reducer brushing flange up against the rear support, drill a 1/8″ hole through both the bushing and the steering rod. Insert cotter pin through hole and secure.

Drill a 1/8″ hole through the steering rod at a point above the two holes in the frame for the steering cable. It is recommended to use 3/32″ wire rope.

Pass the wire rope through this hole, and wrap it around the steering rod three times in opposite directions on each side of the hole. It is recommended to use two people to accomplish this as the wire rope can be difficult to hold in place.

The wire rope is then crossed under the steering rod and led through the two holes in the frame, through the pulleys attached to the mending plate, and then to a point where they will attach to the ends of the front axle. See sk-22 and Detail B

DETAIL B

figure Detail B

The last part of the steering system is the stop block (see Axel step 2) to limit the amount of front axle movement. Turning shall be limited to 1 1/2″ movement, measured at the ends of the threaded axle rod, in each direction from straight ahead. The block and its installation are shown in figures sk-24 and sk-25.
