Calendar 2022

We need some help getting the race organized and run this year. The registration information below is from 2019…we need your help to plan 2022!

Registration

Register online $25.00 Early Bird Fees are due by end of July, or after that it’s $35, final deadline Friday a week before the race.

Build a Car Clinic, Tune Up Clinics and Used Car Sale

Build a Car Clinics – We usually have one in June and one in July from 9-10 am. Examples of Classic Design Cars, Parts lists, Rules and Drawings and design assistance available. If you have a finished car you may get it pre-inspected at the Build a Car Clinic to save time on practice day!

If you have bought an older car please bring it to our Tune Up Clinic the first weekend of August, 9-10 am to get the brakes and steering checked! You’ll get a fast pass to let you go to the head of the line during Inspection on Practice Day.

We hope to have the clinic at the South Bay Family YMCA Teen Center, 820 Paseo Ranchero , Chula Vista, 91910 (pending reopening of the YMCA). If you are building your own car  bring the car you’re working on, look at finished cars and get your questions answered about the race!

If you have a car you’d like to sell or swap bring it!

Parent Meetings

Dates and Times  One meeting is mandatory for all first time racers! Either Saturday at 10 am or Monday at 7 pm at the Chula Vista Department of Education Offices on East J Street. Anyone is welcome to come but we require all first time racers to attend one parent meeting when we’ll go over how the car inspection, practice time and race day work. What equipment to bring for your pit and pit crew. What time to come to set up. We’ll explain about car pushers and how random pairing, timing and the starting gate and laser finish are controlled and much more! We’ll have plenty of time for questions. Sign up for one of the meetings when you register. IMPORTANT New Racers – You will not be allowed to race if you didn’t attend one of the parent meetings.

Mandatory Car Inspection

All cars MUST pass Inspection before they will be allowed on the racecourse.  Brakes will be tested, weight , axle and steering will be checked. Drivers must be able to brake the car independently.

Also for all 7 & 8 year olds  the seats must be enclosed with solid sides.  See an example here

Open Practice

August 2021 (we have not chosen a date for 2021 but this is the schedule of practice day, in case you’re looking ahead)

7:30 am Road Closed. Located at the corner of Rancho Del Rey Pkwy & Del Rey Blvd. (Please don’t come before we get the road closed and get our set up trucks out of the street.)

8:00 am Race Course set up (adults are encouraged to help with set up and they get first place in the inspection line!)

9:30 to 11:30 Participants arrive and check in at the Information table, get an inspection number and set up your pit tent.  Inspection starts at 9:30 (Race Course set up volunteers get to go first, cars that have been pre-inspected at the Build a Car or Tune Up Clinics go though a very quick inspection second. Everyone else will be after that.) Pick up your race wheels and put them on your car.  You can race till the course closes at 3 pm.  Practice is mandatory for 1st time racers in all age groups and you must practice at least once in the car you are racing in on Sunday. Bring your pop up shade structures and chairs and set them up in your spot on Saturday.

After the kids have had time to practice we will let adults race in our larger adult cars against their kids. Sign up at the information table and sign a waiver. Wear closed toe shoes. We will have helmets for adults. Only $15 per race.

All cars must stay overnight, we have a night watchman. This way we can get started Sunday morning early.

3 pm Race course closes for the night. All crews must leave the pits.

The Race

Please arrive by 7:30 am to check in and get your t-shirt at the Information table. Keep the noise down to respect the neighbors. Opening Ceremony begins promptly at 8:00 am and the race begins right after that and goes till we finish, usually around 4 pm! It is a double elimination race so all racers get to race at least twice on Sunday. If you are not here by the time the race begins you will be dropped from the race.

We take a 30 minute lunch break around noon after all age groups have raced at least 2 heats (we will not be selling food on site this year, please bring your own).

Between heats we let adults race in our larger adult cars. Sign up at the information table and sign a waiver. Wear closed toe shoes. We will have helmets for adults. Only $10 per race.

When you’re finished racing, take your race wheels off and wipe them off and return them and pick up your medal. Winners in 1st, 2nd and 3rd get a trophy. Please stay for the photo of the winners in each age group.

Depending on how things go we should be finished between 3 and 5 pm.
